Start by exploring the free demo. When you’re ready to make your own hunt, build the adventure around your family and the places you know.
Make it yours
Choose your hiding places and add clues in the app. Use familiar objects, riddles or a printable code puzzle.
Set the trail
Prepare your QR checkpoints and place the clues. Walk the route yourself to check that every step makes sense.
Let them discover
Bring your phone, scan the QR codes and solve each challenge together. Finish with a treasure you’ve chosen.

Does every child need a phone?
For a family activity, an adult can handle the phone while children solve clues together. Players joining on their own devices need the Backyard Hunt app.
Do we need a printer?
For printed QR checkpoints, you’ll need access to a printer. Our free Morse and Pigpen puzzle sheets are also available to print and solve on paper, without installing the app.
Can we play indoors?
Yes. Choose hiding places around your home and write clues that fit them. Test your route first, keep fragile items out of the game, and help younger players along.
Do invited players need to pay?
Pro is required to share a private hunt. People you invite can join it without their own Pro subscription. They’ll need the app to participate on their devices.
